BACKGROUND

Idle Hour Country Club, known for its high standards of service and loyal membership, found itself in need of assistance in restoring its gracious clubhouse, embracing the national club trend toward family orientation, and developing a vision that would allow the needed expansion of its athletic facilities without diminishing its historic atmosphere. The club was also in the process of restoring its Donald Ross course.

OUR APPROACH

In developing a Master Plan for Idle Hour, Chambers discovered through its interviews with board and planning committee members that the club uses its extensive outdoor facilities during much of the year. During the winter months, the club’s leadership wanted to find ways to bring that outside energy into the club, to make it welcoming, warm and comfortable.

Chambers also included into the Master Plan issues of deferred maintenance and food service efficiency for all the dining areas.

RESULTS

Chambers greatly improved kitchen service to all areas where food could be served, enlivened dining rooms and dining spaces, and helped to blur the borders between inside and outside through architecture, interior design, Procurement and . Chambers restored the clubhouse using the highest standards of historic restoration and completed a historically sensitive athletic addition.
